July 22nd 2008 forever marks the day Tyler Tinsley fell from the ranks of the noble impoverished artist and became a moderately compensated corporate whore. For it was the day his paper craft miniatures game Big Big Battles was loaded to the website of the children’s entertainment conglomerate 4KIDS Inc. The game was once available for free on Tyler’s personal webpage papercrafted.com. The game is now available for “free” on 4kids website www.4kids.tv/bigbigbattles.
The game is “free” because there is no charge to download it, it earns the sarcastic quotation marks because it still earns money! Along with content rich PDF’s, consumers are also viewing advertisements. Yes the business model made popular with other forms of valueless entertainment has finally infected activities as pure as enjoying crafts and tabletop gaming.
While writing this press release in the third person Tyler Tinsley thought to himself “I should probably write something about how the game is all-ages, or about how players are encouraged to color their own papercraft miniatures… screw it, it’s already sandwich-o-clock”
